Placeholder 200x300WiniwRaps Accessories are the creations of textile and fabric artist, Wini McQueen, of Macon, GA.

A graduate of Howard University, Wini McQueen first participated in her hometown’s Durham Archives Project in 1978. In 1988, she created “Family Tree” a wall-sized quilt commissioned by the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Macon, which traveled with Williams College Stitching Memories around the country and then by invitation to Japan. “Family Tree” documented the history of her own extended family, most of which had previously been lost through urban renewal.

Between 1994 and 2013 through the Lila Wallace Reader’s Digest International Foundation, the Thanks Be To Grandmother Winifred Foundation and personal friends, McQueen documented the pieced textiles of Cote d’Ivoire, West Africa during extended residencies. The content of that unpublished memory consists of travel diary, audio-visual materials (photos, videos, sound recordings) and contemporary pieced textiles.

McQueen has exhibited at the High Museum in Atlanta, Taft Museum in Cincinnati, and Tubman Museum of African American Art, History & Culture and Museum of Arts and Sciences, both in Macon, GA.

In addition to her extended shows in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan, McQueen’s work has also been exhibited in other countries and in numerous U.S. museums and galleries, including Knoxville, Kansas City, Roanoke, New York, and Gatlinburg.
